Voodoo Dead Sweeps the Northeast With a Sellout Winter Tour (2/8/17 – 2/12/17)

On February 11th and 12th, Voodoo Dead wrapped up its Northeast tour to a sold out Ardmore Music Hall near Philadelphia after selling out The Hamilton in D.C. on February 8th and 9th, as well as New York City’s Irving Plaza on February 10th. For this five-night run Voodoo Dead’s all star lineup featured Steve Kimock (The Other Ones) and Jackie Greene (Phil Lesh & Friends) on guitar, Oteil Burbridge (Dead & Co) on bass, Jeff Chimenti (Dead & Co, RatDog) on keys, Wally Ingram on drums, and New Orleans legend Papa Mali as a very special guest.

Each night presented a fresh new setlist with New Orleans-inspired Grateful Dead music, as well as Big Easy classics like “Iko Iko” which found themselves in heavy rotation within the Dead’s live catalogue. The band’s grasp and knowledge of the Dead’s historic repertoire truly shined throughout the five night run, as Voodoo Dead managed to completely change up its set list night-by-night, only repeating classics like “I Know You Rider” and “Bertha” if the song was not a part of the previous night’s collection of jams.

Before this sellout run, Voodoo Dead had only performed in New Orleans as part of Nolafunk’s Annual Series During Jazz Fest. The supergroup hit capacity at their previous shows during Jazz Fest, so it came as no surprise that their reputation and pent up momentum from New Orleans propelled Voodoo Dead into a highly successful and critically acclaimed Northeast run. Voodoo Dead is scheduled to return to Jazz Fest with two nighttime shows at Republic NOLA on May 6th and May 7th. To make matters even better, Voodoo Dead is dedicating its May 7th concert as a 40th Anniversary to the Grateful Dead’s legendary show at Barton Hall on 5/8/77. Tickets are still available for both shows and can be purchased here via Ticketweb. We’ve compiled set lists, sound boards, and professional videos of each concert from its Northeast run, which can be found below.
