The Peter Levin Band & Tangiers Blues Band at the Hall at MP, February 17th: Head-Clearing Fun

If you’re looking for head-clearing fun (and who isn’t these days?) check out the Tangiers Blues Band, playing The Hall at MP in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on Friday, February 17th. A raucous group of musicians who re-invent our favorite deep cuts, the band is neither Algerian nor strictly blues, but the Beatles didn’t have six legs either.

The cast of the Tangiers Blues Band shifts occasionally, but core members King (lead vocals, guitar), Eric Brown (drums), Chris Scianni (guitar), Dave Sellar (bass), Danny Clinch (harmonica, vocals) and Peter Levin (keyboards) whip up toe-tappin’ finger-poppin’, head-boppin’, hip-shakin’ rock ’n’ roll that begins with Muddy Waters and Willie Dixon and barrels through Buffalo Springfield, Bob Dylan and Prince all the way to Lady Gaga. The miracle is, you’ll love them all. The fact is, TBB is a musician’s band, where great performers get to have fun and play what they love without all that incredibly tiresome touring that major record labels demand.

Keyboardist Peter Levin (Gregg Allman BandBlind Boys if AlabamaAaron Neville) co-headlines the show with his Peter Levin Band, but he’s also a founding member of the Tangiers Blues Band, so it’s going to be hard to get him offstage—as if anyone would want him to. This diverse group of pros has a large network of friends, so I’d expect a heavy hitter or two to sit in. (No promises—they’d be icing.) In the past, they’ve been joined by the likes of G-Love, Phil Lesh, Dave Grohl, Donald Fagen, Jason Newsted and members of the Dave Matthews Band, My Morning Jacket, and Cage The Elephant. The Matt Rae Trio from Connecticut will provide opening support for both bands.

Tickets are currently on sale with a premium seating option available via TicketWeb. For more information on other New York City shows from CEG, visit its primary website.
